Another War Nobody Wants

Just What We Needed!

Just What We Needed!

I guess things have been going too well for us lately. It must be time for another war. Let’s dust off those “Support Our Troops” signs and wave that raggedy flag. We are about to step once again into that Tar Baby par excellence, the Middle East, which is full of people who hate us and want to get even with us for … for … I forget what. We don’t understand them, though they understand us somewhat from being exposed to our entertainment media for so long.

There is no possible good outcome from our involvement in Syria. Innocent Syrians will be killed by our weaponry, and thousands of people will thereupon discover they have a blood feud with the United States. I thought Obama was smarter than that.

Let’s say we have a super bomb in our arsenal that will seek out Bashar al-Assad and blow him to kingdom come. Then what? Even such a surgical strike will lead to a civil war among Islamists, al-Qaida, Baathists, Druzes, Shi’ites, Alawites, and others. Are we going to send in referees with striped shirts to declare who will be the winner and who is fighting fair. No one will be fighting fair, and of one thing I am certain: Before long, all weapons will be aimed at us. So much for gratitude, huh?

  1. I have noticed that we seem to have reversed the definition of insanity those little voices in our heads were the ones saying illogical stuff that you did not say out loud for fear they would take you away . Now we say them and keep the logic to ourselves for the same reasons .
At a guess , I would say if we all stop doing business with Syria froze their bank accounts and blockaded the access routes they might pay a little more attention ,
No the first thought is oh yes lets throw something big road signs and hand out maps turn right for the hospital and left for chemical weapons

  2. Obama has been quite aggressive conducting Predator drone operations, run by the CIA and Pentagon, basically secret wars in countries (such as Pakistan: the tribal areas of Waziristan) or Yemen) with whom the U.S. is not actually, well, at war. Except, maybe we are, since there is some legal basis for such actions by the President. So I doubt that he “knows better.” Whether what he has done, is justified, is debatable, but, maybe it is. Too bad the American people don’t have more information about what is really happening, other than Miley Cyrus or Lindsay Lohan are not involved.
Obama did order the operation that finally got Bin Laden, in Abbottabad, where he was living in a secure compound, in a fairly comfortable city in Pakistan, supposedly something most Americans wanted to happen. If Obama uses Cruise missiles in Syria, and that’s what I assume are loaded on the war ships, then one hopes that either the U.S. or Israel, actually know where the chemical weapons are stored! Maybe they do have that intelligence. One can hope.
Jim, you know I am an old “left-winger” and I certainly am not a fan of the constant state of war the U.S. has been in, or the war on “terror” or the “war on drugs”–I think it was Gore Vidal who suggested a “war on the seven deadly sins.” Nonetheless, the U.S. does have some real enemies out there, and that’s what the military is for–the question is, who are the “real enemies” in Syria? But all the usual liberal, let’s all just hold hands and sing in harmony and peace stuff, may not work for this one. Chemical weapons like these are not at the same level of danger as Round-up. And they are portable, if they fall into the wrong hands, and it seems they are already in the wrong hands.
I just hope that someday our government turns its attention to this country, where we surely need help.
I feel sorry for the President; in this case, I will probably support him in whatever he decides, since that’s what he was elected to do. I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes right now.

  3. Yoda: Yes, run! Yes, a Jedi’s strength flows from the Force. But beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a fight. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan’s apprentice.
Luke: Vader… Is the dark side stronger?
Yoda: No, no, no. Quicker, easier, more seductive.
Luke: But how am I to know the good side from the bad?
Yoda: You will know… when you are calm, at peace, passive. A Jedi uses the Force for knowledge and defense, NEVER for attack.
Luke: But tell my why I can’t…
Yoda: No, no! There is no “why”.
